The Fat Bear Restaurant

What we do

We're very happy to announce that we'll be exhibiting at one of the country's largest food festivals - FEAST. We'll be in Tobacco Dock from July 31st to August 3rd serving:

- Brisket & Sausage Gumbo
- Brisket Po' Boy Sandwich
- Zea's Baby Spinach Salad with goat or blue cheese, peppadew peppers, sundried tomatoes, sultanas, candied nuts and a hot pepper jelly vinaigrette
- Pimento Cheese ("The Caviar of the South")

To complement the Po' Boy we'll also be serving our deliciously refreshing Rum Punch - a fruity (but not oversweet) blend of 3 rums, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat and falernum.

Tickets can be found on this special link below, and if you use the code TRADER you can get 2-for-1 tickets. That's a helluva sweet deal.

Whilst we are securing the last tranche of investment required, and full-time premises, we're very happy to announce an extension to our new(ish) series of events:

The Fat Bear Beefsteak Bacchanalia

After a popular run during June and July, the Bacchanalia will be returning at soon-to-be-announced dates in August

Beefsteaks are extravagant, indulgent affairs which involve mountains of the finest beef sliced and then dipped into butter and eaten with fingers, alongside copious quantities of excellent wine. No crockery, no cutlery, no pretension – just a judgement-free few hours of decadent gastronomy.

While The Fat Bear strives to bring some of the undiscovered joys of American regional cuisine to London, this fine city also has its own history of similar events. Organisations such as ‘The Sublime Society of Beef Steaks’ are few and far between, and are confined to a select few members. Now, this slice of British history and North-East American culture is open to all.

The Fat Bear will be working alongside the exceptional Rare Breed Meat Co. for their beefy victuals, and the superb Bedales for wines of exemplary quality.
The charming environs of the upstairs private dining room at the Rising Sun pub on Carter lane will allow 40 people, seated at communal tables as is traditional, to enjoy a Sunday afternoon of unashamed revelry.

Two types of ticket are available (£60 and £30) - both include unrivalled quantities of beef and the £60 ticket includes free-flowing red wine, though £30 ticket holders can make use of our bar (cash strongly preferred). Tickets can be found through Billetto here:

From the soul-enriching Cajun gumbo of New Orleans to the fish tacos of the South-West by way of New England’s clam chowder, there's a rotating menu of dishes which lie at the heart and soul of America’s cuisine. Food is keenly priced with snacks starting from £3 and main dishes from £8.
Whilst we honour and respect the traditions and techniques that underpin these dishes, we also recognise the importance of modernising and reinterpreting these recipes to best reflect the amazing produce we enjoy in the UK. ‘American inspiration, British execution’ – The Fat Bear isn’t chained by a desire to be authentic, but instead to update and reimagine these great dishes.
At the heart of our dishes are the best quality ingredients, courtesy of some of the UK’s best suppliers, such as The Rare Breed Meat Co. which supplies all of our meat.
Our series of pop-ups during the summer were wildly popular, with consistent 5* feedback including:

“Absolutely incredible night, insane food, great paired cocktails, fantastic vibe and hospitality. I can't think of anything to improve it, apart from DO IT EVERY DAY!”
“Cocktails were flawless, and each dish packed a punch of unique flavours, a real dining experience”
“The food was superb, from the little canapés served on arrival all the way to the last spoonful of the dessert”
“Really warm welcome - event was well run by enthusiastic group and the food was delicious … wonderfully fresh seafood … We had a marvelous time.”

Where we live

We are currently hosting events at The Rising Sun Pub on Carter Lane (near to St. Paul's and Blackfriars). Currently we do not have full-time premises, though we hope to open our full-time venue within 2014, which will boast a well-priced top-class bar offering with an emphasis on cocktails, such as The Fat Bear's original ‘Minted Rose Daiquiri’. Also available will be imported US craft and locally produced beers, as well as a comprehensive rum and bourbon list.

Who we are

The Fat Bear is a collaboration from both sides of the Atlantic, with a team drawn from New York and London who’ve honed their ability to deliver the best possible dining experiences in places such as the newly Michelin-starred Social Eating House, Hawksmoor, Paramount and beyond.
We pride ourselves on practising the principles of ‘Enlightened Hospitality’ espoused by Danny Meyer, whose fast food venture Shake Shack has just opened in London. ‘Relaxed Excellence’ is key to The Fat Bear - superb service and food in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere.

Staff are at the heart of our business, and we are always happy to bring in new talent who share our ideals and standards of excellence. If you'd like to join the Fat Bear family, we'd love for you to get in touch.
